Güell palace(1885-1890) was one of the first works created by Antoni Gaudí Cornet, Catalonia's most universally-recognised architect (1852-1926).
The work was commissioned by Barcelona industrialist Eusebi Güell Bacigalupi (1845-1918), who was wealty and well-educated man associated with the cultural renaissence (renaixença) that Catalonia was enjoying at the time. Güell would become Gaudí's best customer for more than thirty years, granting the architect full creative freedom.
This book familiarizes the reader with the history of the palace and its main characters, essential for understanding the building's relationship with the social and cultural context in which it was designed and built.
