Barcelona's Güell Palace (1885-1890) was one of the
first works created by Antoni Gaudí Cornet, Catalonia's most universally-recognised architect (1852-1926).

The work was commissioned by Barcelona industrialist
Eusebi Güell Bacigalupi (1846-1918), who was a wealthy and well-educated man associated with the cultural renaissance (renaixença) that Catalonia was enjoying at the time. Güell would become Gaudi's best customer for more than thirty years, granting the architect full creative freedom.

This book familiarizes the reader with the history
of the palace and its main characters, essential for
understanding the building's relationship with the
social and cultural context in which it was designed
and built.

The book also leads visitors into the palace's most
meaningful spaces, while providing essential written
and visual information for understanding the building
in the best possible way.

Güell Palace is one of the major architectural works
erected in Barcelona since the Gothic period, and
represents a milestone in European architecture, since it opened up new paths in terms of spatial design and formal expression that would eventually leave their mark on the continent.
